USX South Works
Chicago, Illinois
For generations, the USX South Works, located on a 578-acre lakefront site on the city's Far South Side, was the source of much of the steel that built Chicago. The plant closed permanently in 1993 and was subsequently demolished. Okrent Associates was retained by USX to assist in protecting the value of their real estate asset as it was converted to alternative uses. Ongoing consulting services (1999 onward) included the preparation of planning studies that explored the potential for new development; and the evaluation of proposals for redevelopment projects submitted by outside entities and agencies of government.
